Once again this year the Ottawa Granite will be one of the host clubs for the Ottawa Valley Curling Association (OVCA) Brokerlink Junior Superspiel. October 27, 28, and 29 will see some of the best junior curlers in the world, not just Canada, honing their skills in our club.
In support of this we are looking for people willing to volunteer a few hours to work as a timer for one, or more, of these exciting games. Each game will probably work out to about two and a half hours of your time at the club as we would want you at the club fifteen (15) minutes before the start of the game to ensure that you are well settled when the game begins.
If you’re interested but not sure then ask Steve Hindle, Rob Chalmers or the Club Manager, Denise Hoekstra about what is involved. They will be able to describe the process and will reassure you that training (it takes less than five minutes to learn) will be provided. In addition, there will be plenty of assistance available during the games. Learning to deal with the pressure of a timed game is an important feature of this bonspiel so your participation will be an aid in the development of these curlers. They have always been appreciative of the participation of our club’s volunteers.
The configuration of the competition will see our club being used for two draws on Friday evening, three draws throughout Saturday, and two draws on Sunday morning. The Championship games are scheduled for Cityview on Sunday afternoon.
