Hello curlers,
Happy spring from the HOT SHOTS Curling Camp team!
We have just come home from our first-ever camp on arena ice and in the southern United States. The fabulous Extreme Ice Centre just outside Charlotte, North Carolina was our home for three days from April 26-28, and all we can say is THANK YOU for an amazing weekend.
The southern hospitality was fantastic, the ice was really good, and the participants (all 41 of them) were extremely keen. Thank you to local organizers Carol McKee and David Pollard, and their volunteers, for their tireless efforts to make this camp a reality. Congratulations to Dr. Dixon Freeman of Atlanta, Georgia who was the recipient of our Pat O. Reid Achievement Award. Dixon has vowed to be an ambassador for our great game in the United States.
Next up is our summer camp in Oakville, Ontario on August 23-25, 2013. The Oakville Camp is our largest camp, capped at 96 curlers at the newly renovated 8-sheet Oakville Curling Club.
Our roster of instructors will once again be the top coaches and sports educators in the world, as well as a few of the elite players in Canada. As of May 1, our camp was three quarters full, so please register as soon as possible at www.hotshotscurling.com
Our fall camp will be in the windy city of Chicago on October 11-13, 2013. The Chicago Curling Club is located 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, and only 15 minutes from O'Hare International Airport. The Chicago Camp can accommodate up to 64 curlers. No experience is necessary, as our world-class instructors can teach beginners, novice, intermediate, and even advanced curlers. Please register asap as there are limited spaces available.

Critical Need for OVCA Bonspiel Committee Members |
|
|
|

|
Since 1956, the OVCA through volunteer based committees has organized highly successful and fully subscribed bonspiels for curlers across the Ottawa Valley. The OVCA board is very appreciative of the excellent work by the committee members. We also want to thank club boards, managers, bartenders, volunteers and the ice technicians at the 15 plus clubs for their contribution to the success of the bonspiels.
We realize that curlers have many responsibilities and find it difficult to squeeze in time to volunteer. As a result, over the past few years, it has become increasingly difficult to staff the organizing committees. In particular, finding volunteers for the OVCA Mixed Bonspiel and the City of Ottawa Men’s Bonspiel has proven to be a challenge -- we need chairpersons and committee members for both bonspiels by June 15, 2013 in order to start planning for events in the next curling season. The OVCA Mixed and Men’s Bonspiel Committee Responsibilities document is available on our website under the About Us/ Committee Chairs (Committee Responsibilities) on the OVCA website (OVCA or by contacting

) in addition, each committee has a template and detailed task list in place ... all we need are volunteers. A list of vacant positions is below. If we don’t have enough volunteers these two bonspiels are at risk of not happening in 2014.

Get your own rock handle by April 30, 2014 |

Attention, everyone! Announcing a fundraiser for the Granite Curling Club! This is your chance to get your name, or the name of a loved one, engraved on a stone handle. We will be purchasing brand new handles, and for $300, you can have one or two names engraved on a handle. These handles will be kept for ten years. That’s only $30 a year to see your name flying down the ice to take out an opponent’s rock or making that perfect draw to the button. Please see Denise, the Club Manager, to order your handle today! All funds raised will go to the renovations of the Granite Curling Club facility. Deadline: April 30, 2014. |
