Sparing Rules for the Granite Curling Club
Ratified by the Board on September 20, 2009
Effective as of October 1, 2009
Rules for Social Members and Non-Members: These rules are applied cumulatively across all leagues for a single season. Once the curler has reached the maximum number of sparing opportunities, he/she is no longer permitted to spare at the Granite Curling Club for the remainder of the season.
- A social member of the Granite Curling Club may spare up to five (5) times per season.
- A non-member of the Granite Curling Club is limited to sparing three (3) times throughout the curling season.
Rules for Members: These rules apply to all leagues. Different leagues may have additional restrictions. It is the member’s responsibility to know all rules for any league he/she is curling in.
- Two (2) members of the original team must be present and playing for each game. This allows for a maximum of two (2) spares per game.
- A member may spare a maximum of three (3) times for each team in a draw. There is no limit to the number of times a member may spare across all leagues, as long as the maximum per team per draw is not exceeded.
Glossary:
A draw: a session of approximately 7 weeks allowing for a round robin of curling in each league. All leagues run the draws differently and must be verified by any member wishing to spare.
