Sparing Rules for the Granite Curling Club
Ratified by the Board on September 20, 2009
Updated March 15, 2023
Rule for Social Members: A social member of the Granite Curling Club is allowed to curl three (3) times per season as well as in club fun spiels.
Rule for Non-Members: Once a curler has spared three (3) times, that individual is no longer permitted to spare at the Granite Curling Club for the remainder of the season. This rule applies cumulatively across all leagues.
- Two (2) members of the original team must be present and playing for each game. This allows for a maximum of two (2) spares per game.
- A member may spare a maximum of three (3) times for each team in a draw. There is no limit to the number of times a member may spare across all leagues, as long as the maximum per team per draw is not exceeded.
- Fixed curling teams with four members may have fifth and sixth players. The team owner must register these players. Registered fifth and sixth players are not restricted to the number of times they play on that team.
A draw: a session of approximately 7 weeks allowing for a round robin of curling in each league. All leagues run the draws differently and must be verified by any member wishing to spare.
